Valerian - Valerian is found throughout Europe and Northern Asia, and is common in England in marshy thickets and on the borders of ditches and rivers. Greek physicians used Valerian for many medical problems including digestive problems, liver problems and nausea.

It was during the eighteenth century that Valerian was more commonly accepted as a sedative. Valerian has been found to be effective with problems such as stress and insomnia. Studies have shown that Valerian may help with the initial problem of falling asleep, but does not have a dramatic effect on the length of sleep for the individual, however people taking Valerian have noted that they experience a more restful sleep and feel more refreshed upon waking.

Valerian is also none addictive and does not act as a sleeping pill, therefore Valerian can be used when driving.

Contraindications: Do not use during pregnancy or when breast feeding.
