Milk Thistle - Milk Thistle originates from the Mediterranean and the plant takes its name from its traditional use to stimulate milk flow in nursing mothers.

Milk Thistle was also used 1000's of years ago for its bitter properties, however it is now used medicinally for its liver protecting and anti-oxidant properties.

The seeds of the dried flowers of the Milk Thistle are used, these are rich in the active ingredient called Silymarin, this is made up of three parts, the most active being Silibinin and this is thought to be responsible for the effectiveness of Silymarin.

Medicinally, Milk Thistle is regarded as one of the most important liver tonics. It is thought to act directly on the cells protecting them from toxins and preventing harmful toxins from entering them. Milk Thistle stimulates secretion & flow of bile, helping prevent a sluggish liver & gallstone formation. It is also believed to contain properties to help prevent Hepatitis and Cirrhosis of the liver due to excessive alcohol consumption.

The liver is a vital organ in the body, it is the most important avenue for the elimination of toxins.

Contraindications : In rare occasions it may have a slight laxative effect.
